Welcome to our new and improved corporate web site and our first new blog post. Our goal for this new version was to emphasize the foundation of HotSchedules: innovation.

First, we wanted to bring the site up to date with some of the more recent design principles that are being employed on the web today. Luckily, the web has taken a turn for bigger and more simple, which is great because this provides for a better user experience. As such, we did things like increase the size of buttons, headings, and form fields. Also, we lengthened the pages quite a bit to make more information available via scrolling rather than clicking.

Second, we wanted to present our information simply and effectively. By increasing the speed of our drop down menus, adding more content navigation, and utilizing the footer as a navigation element, our users have to use less clicks to explore our site, and can do it faster. In addition, we did simple things like use color boxes and white space to better frame information so the user can drill down to what they want know more quickly.

Third, about 95% of users now have javascript enable on their browser. This is thanks to higher online adoption, the evolution of the website browser, and advanced by companies like Google in making javascript easier to host and use. This is important because it allows web designers to continue to create information-rich websites, but to present that information in a less intrusive, cluttered manner. We are using this principal in several places on our site. Our home page rotating banners, the client section of the home page, and the products page. As you can see it allows the user to access large amounts of information and not have to leave the page. In addition, it gives the user control over when they are presented with that information. If you get a warning when you visit the site it means that you don’t have javascript enabled. You can view this help page by Google to learn how to turn it on.

Fourth, we wanted to draw attention to some of the benefits of using HotSchedules. Everyone wants to know the features, but the benefits are what they really care about. As such we created four specific pages that can be accessed through our rotating banners or by clicking the respective links in the footer.

They are: n

    n

  • Communicate
  • n

  • Save Time
  • n

  • Reduce Turnover
  • n

  • Control Labor Costs
  • n

These pages are stylistically pleasing but also aggregate information from around our site that specifically speaks to how HotSchedules can benefit your business.

Lastly, we wanted to take our blog to the next level. We have such an outstanding user base we wanted a better way to communicate and organize feedback. So we built this blog. We added the use of tags, expanded the categories, created an archive by month and also improved our comments section. Another nice touch you will notice over time is we have added profile pictures for when a member of HotSchedules responds, so you know who the comment is coming from. This new platform will allow us to post more frequently and provide more media rich content.

We hope you think the updates are useful and add to your experience with HotSchedules. Whether you are a user, interested party, or a fan, we always appreciate your feedback.
