Recap of MURTEC 2010…

Sore feet, a hoarse voice, screaming backache and a lack of sleep.  Sound familiar? Anybody that has attended a tradeshow knows what I’m talking about.  However, MURTEC 2010 in Las Vegas was well worth it.  This was our first year to sponsor the event and it was everything we’d hoped for.  As soon as I walked into the ballroom at Caesar’s Palace I knew it would be a different show. There were no 4-story booths, hot air balloons, laser lightshows or company branded Harley Davidson’s on the show floor.  Each sponsor company had a 10’ x 10’ booth with a modest backdrop.  Of course when it came to the best online employee scheduling and workforce management booth we stood out amongst the others! Ok, to be fair, we were the only company in attendance that leverages an innovative online labor scheduling application to promote employee unification so it was nice to be the authority in the room.

The attendees were from all sectors of the restaurant industry but most were a perfect match for our labor solutions.  Our conversations covered everything from mobile apps for employees to activity based labor forecasting for large QSR installations.  It’s interesting to learn how many different ways companies analyze labor data and it’s great to see how our system is being leveraged.

Each evening after the informative meetings, keynote speakers and break-out sessions concluded we had the opportunity to host dinners for our current and future customers.  The first night we went to Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill and if you’re ever in Vegas do yourself a favor by stopping by to try the Goat Cheese “Queso Fundido”, it won’t disappoint.  It was inspiring to be among the thought leaders of the industry and get their input about how HotSchedules has revolutionized the restaurant labor scheduling process.  It was also great to hear the success stories from our customers about how HotSchedules has not only lowered labor costs but improved company culture and improved communication at all levels of their organization.

After dinner we avoided the blackjack tables and headed off to get some much needed rest, true story!  The next night we took our guests to Rao’s and had another wonderful meal and my suggestion here is to let your server choose for you, they won’t steer you wrong!  Coincidentally our server told us about how his son uses HotSchedules at another Vegas area restaurant and is a raving fan!  Now we just need to get Rao’s onboard and the whole family will be using HotSchedules.  During our meal the conversation was more about good wine and great family stories.  It’s nice to know our customers on a personal level and we believe that the relationships we build go much deeper than customer/vendor interaction.  Each restaurant we work with is considered a “customer-partner” and that’s the way we approach our working relationship.  It comes down to giving our customers what they want and not overcharging them for great service.

The last day of the show was a good opportunity for us to show a few potential customers product demonstrations and based on their reaction it looks like they will soon be part of the HotSchedules community.  All in all it was a great event for HotSchedules and for those of you that have not had the chance to attend MURTEC we highly recommend checking it out next year.
