Restaurant managers in Canada better watch the clock. The country’s most recent rollout of overtime laws – which we first read about on the Canada Labour Code Website – will affect the price you pay when employees go into overtime.

According to Canadian Labour Law, each province and territory has its own legislation. These laws include minimum wage, overtime, holidays, vacation pay rates, termination notices, workers compensation and similar payroll legislation.

The overtime changes affected the following provinces and territories:

British Columbia

Daily OT: 1.5x pay after 8 hours, 2x pay after 12 hours Weekly OT: 1.5x pay after 40 hours

Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, Yukon

Daily OT: 1.5x pay after 8 hours Weekly OT: 1.5x pay after 40 hours

New Brunswick

Daily OT: None Weekly OT: 1.5x pay after 44 hours

Alberta

Daily OT: 1.5x pay after 8 hours Weekly OT: 1.5x pay after 44 hours

Nova Scotia

Daily OT: None Weekly OT: 1.5x pay after 48 hours
