On a recent evening, in the span of just a few hours, over $400 was collected from HotSchedules team members. Several probably left the premises disgruntled after being knocked out early, yet others were much more positive about their experience. “I hope this can happen again, and perhaps on a routine basis,” said one participant.

What that Hottie was referring to was the HotSchedules Charity Poker Tournament. A group of 17 card sharks each paid a $20 buy-in and battled it out, Texas Hold’em style. Drinks, food, laughter, and maybe a curse word here or there filled the room that night…all in the name of charity.

An additional $98 was raised by a side table of blackjack for spectators and disappointed poker participants. The highlight of the night goes to Elizabeth Arias, who set the blackjack table on fire. After being dealt two Aces, she decided to split them where another Ace was then dealt. In the HotSchedules Casino, we allow you to split Aces twice and that’s exactly what she did. Next came the moment that we’ll never forget…Jack, Ten, Jack. That’s right, three blackjacks! Great job Elizabeth, and thanks for donating.

As for the tournament, there could only be one winner. After going through three tables and the ups and downs that come with being low stack then high; the grand champion was Brant Kraczek, a then newcomer to the HotSchedules family. As winner of the tournament he received a $200 cash prize awarded to him via a fantastic homemade “big” check.

More importantly, Brant was honored with the opportunity to select a charity of his choice to donate the funds we raised. The charity he selected is called Grounded in Music, an organization founded on “…leveraging the power of music to transform young lives by creating self-confidence, opportunity and hope.” With the company matching dollar for dollar, the donation amount totaled $876!

Looking back on that night it’s easy to say what we all had an absolute blast, but it was also a great reminder of just how fortunate we are to be able to give back to our community. Way to go team!
