Reuniting with some old mates, made for an amazing event at the 7th Annual Outback Steakhouse Pro Am. Ray P and I had the fortune of becoming Outbackers in the early 90’s with a combined 14 years of service in Texas. Empowering leadership, impactful culture, and a core value of giving back to the community, are the very things that make Outback Steakhouse a great place to work and dine.
As fate would have it, Ray and I never met or worked together with Outback Steakhouse in the early 90’s, but we had mutual friends in the company, which provided an instant bond as Outbackers when we met at former employer, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, in 1999. Six months after meeting, HotSchedules was founded and 9 years later we were selected to be OSI Restaurant Partners’ labor management partner. Having the opportunity to be a sponsor for this year’s Outback Pro-Am was a great accomplishment for us personally, and a worthy sponsorship for two great causes.
The benefiting charities for this year’s event were FARA (Freidrich’s Ataxia Research Alliance) and Operation Homefront- Florida. The Friedrich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) drives research to find a cure for Friedrich’s Ataxia , a disease that robs children and adults of their ability to walk, speak and hear. It causes life-shortening cardiac disease, diabetes and severe scoliosis. Operation Homefront provides emergency and morale support for our troops and the families they’ve left behind.
The unique thing about the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am, is that the first two rounds pair celebrities (Michael J. Fox, George Lopez, Vinny Testaverde, Vince Gill, and my all time favorite Emmitt Smith), pro golfers (Hale Irwin, Tom Kite, Fred Couples, and Olin Browne) and amateurs (HotSchedules VP, Client Services-Justin Buckley and Sales Associate, Sam Ryan) to go head-to-head on the beautiful TPC Tampa Bay Course.
Highlights of the events were the opening Aussie Bash with a Tim McGraw concert; meeting Outback Steakhouse Co-Founder, Chris Sullivan and former COO, Paul Avery; golfing on the prestigious Old Memorial Golf course; hanging out with former boss and VP of Leadership Development, Steve Erickson and his family; and dining at the original Outback Steakhouse and meeting Cindy, the very first hourly employee hired by the Company 22 years ago.
We would like to personally thank Roni Lloyd, Senior Director of Business Development for Outback, for assisting HotSchedules with the sponsorship and we look forward to future events.
No rules, just right!
