Happy Valentine’s Day…to ME!

Earlier this week, we held a fun Valentine’s Day contest on Twitter and Facebook. We asked our likers and followers to tell their friends and fellow tweeters about us, and if they did, we entered them into a contest to win an iPad. Of course, we wanted to get a bunch more followers and likers out of the deal, but mostly, we wanted to engage and reward the people who are HotSchedules fans.

We got a pretty decent response from our fan base, and perhaps even better, there were some really vocal cats out there who shouted our praises and got rip roaring excited about the contest. I also got to learn a lot about EdgeRank and how it affects who can even see your Facebook posts, but that’s probably TMI.

After the contest closed, I printed out all the names of the people who entered, cut them into strips, balled them up and put them in a big trough, of sorts. Then, I had a random person in the office pick from the entries.

The winner, Brett Magnus, is a student and bus boy at a major chain, and he was so excited he couldn’t think straight. That was the best part of Valentine’s Day week for me. Don’t tell my husband I said this (and sorry, honey, if you read this), but to get to call one of our customers, who is already a fan of what we do, and tell him that he won our contest, and that his prize was something he REALLY wanted, that was the best part of my whole week.

What’s also cool is that he got rewarded just for having a dialogue with us. The afore mentioned EdgeRank tells me that people on Facebook who don’t interact with us on a regular basis, also stop receiving our posts – bummer for them, bonus for Brett Magnus.

I think there’s a moral in that story somewhere, but I won’t be so blatant as to write it out. You can glean it for yourself 😉
