Last Friday, Red Book Connect COO Ray Pawlikowski dished out culture tips with Bryan Wempen, host of DriveThruHR, a popular Internet radio show focused on delivering the latest news and happenings in human resources.

The focus of the conversation: how to make an edgy and cool culture spread as the organization evolves.

That’s an especially relevant conversation since HotSchedules, GoHire, Schoox, Macromatix as well the Digital and Managers Red Books merged to form the Red Book Connect family.

We tuned in and got the inside story on how to keep the crazy quirks alive as things rapidly change.

For Ray, “it all starts with values.”

Red Book Connect’s values are Service, Creativity, Fun, Family, and Humility. They were originally founded by Ray and Hotschedules’ co-founder David Cantu (now Chief Customer Officer) in the Austin, Texas office. Today, more than 500 team members (and growing!) from around the globe are learning, adopting and preserving them.

“Very early on, we realized that the leadership teams all had one thing in common. We all believed in taking care of everyone, from our senior level executives all the way down to our hourly workforce. We know that when we do that our people will in turn take great care of our customers.”

Of course, it doesn’t happen overnight or without purposeful effort. “We made it a primary goal to make sure that culture is in tack,” Ray said. “We’re absolutely focused on it.”
