In July, we introduced a new blog series where you’ll get an inside peak into what makes HotSchedules so unique — our team members. We kicked off the series talking with ” Amy Castner”:../../blog/2010/7/21/and-the-keepin-it-hot-award-goes-to.html, and this month, we chatted with HotSchedules training manager Scott Adams about the Longhorns, Bryan Adams and his role at HotSchedules.

*What is your official title at HotSchedules, and what does your day-to-day workload entail?

*My official title is training manager; I help get new clients up to speed on how to properly use the product through a variety of training tools we’ve created such as videos, knowledge base articles and printable user guides. We also provide live training sessions, conference calls, and best practices sessions to ensure a customer’s transition to HotSchedules is as seamless as possible. I also work internally with the HotSchedules team to make sure everyone is up to speed with all aspects of our product.**

How long have you been at the company?

I have been with HotSchedules for more than five years now.

What was your professional or academic experience before HotSchedules?

I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2002 with a B.S. in kinesiology when Ray offered me a position at HotSchedules. I had eight years of restaurant experience, so I was intrigued with the concept of HotSchedules and couldn’t resist checking it out. All these years later, I’m still with the company and loving every day of it.

What do you feel makes HotSchedules’ company culture most unique?

We are all friends. We take care of each other. We work hard, but we have fun doing it.

What is the silliest thing you love about working at HotSchedules?

It’s great when we have HotFit contests or HotBall tournaments, where everyone comes together for a day. These events are funny because you discover the “competitive spirit” of some of your co-workers.

*What would be your # 1 tip for any HotSchedules user? *

Use the training materials we provide. There’s lots of good information in our Customer Center as well as in our newly created Community Forum.

*Do you have any personal experience working in the restaurant industry? If so, any stories that stick in your mind? *

I started out as a busser, cook, and barback during high school, and in college I worked as a server and bartender. I usually had a great rapport with guests through my humor and sarcasm.

*If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would you go?

*I would love to visit Prague. I have some Czech blood in me from my mom’s side of the family, and I have always heard wonderful things about the city.**

*Where is your favorite place you’ve ever lived or traveled, and why? *

I have yet to discover what Europe has to offer, so as of now I would say Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I love the beach and getting away from everything. The locals are also extremely nice and welcoming.

You’re at karaoke, and you’re up next: What do you pick?

Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams…duh!

What’s the last movie you saw?

_Inception_—a very well-written movie that makes you think.

*What was the last great book you read (or are currently reading)? *

I read the sports page. Pathetic, I know. Quit judging!

What website is at the top of your favorites list?

Orangebloods.com: I love my Texas Longhorns. Hook ‘em Horns!

It’s midnight on Saturday: What are you most likely doing?

Midnight? Probably in bed already. Let’s pretend it’s 10 p.m. In that case I would probably be out with friends having some drinks, or hanging out with my family. I am blessed that my three sisters and parents all live in the Austin area, so we get to hang out often. I am also blessed to have two nieces and two nephews: Being “Uncle Scotty” is tons of fun.

*What’s one thing – aside from your clothes, keys, phone, and wallet – that you never leave home without? *

ChapStick: I use the stuff all the time!
