Are You Missing Out on This Hot Hiring Trend?
We all know how hard it is to find and hire great employees. And not just any employee … the ones who make your life easier because you know they’ve “got it.” If you’ve found a few of these aces, you’re thanking your lucky stars. (we can feel your head nodding through the interwebs.) But […]
We all know how hard it is to find and hire great employees. And not just any employee … the ones who make your life easier because you know they’ve “got it.”
If you’ve found a few of these aces, you’re thanking your lucky stars. (we can feel your head nodding through the interwebs.)
But here’s the problem – it feels like luck because it is luck. We don’t need to tell you twice, but luck is not a repeatable strategy.
Thankfully, a lot of companies have already cracked the talent sourcing code. HR departments and hiring managers across every industry have combined the networking power of social media with referral-based hiring-and the results are indisputable.
Why does referral and reward-based hiring work? It’s not rocket science, but it does do three things really well (and with little effort on the part of everyone involved).
Helps Uncover Hidden Connections
LinkedIn did a really amazing thing. They created an online hub that made it easy for the typical corporate professional to connect and endorse other people that they liked working with. Relationships that might have been long forgotten or ignored are now public pats on the back for a job well done – which employers then use to vet their potential candidates.
Up until the launch of HotSchedules’ Jobsabi, there really wasn’t a LinkedIn for the restaurant industry. Restaurant hiring managers still hand paper resumes over to anyone who walks through their doors and the turnover rate is still as high as ever – something Jobsabi hopes to turn around. (P.S. You can claim your restaurant here. )
Outside of social recruiting, employee engagement is probably the most used HR buzzword. Recruiting through your team using professional social networking apps is a great way to get your team collaborating. And while they’re taking selfies for their Jobsabi profile pics, indulging in their “About Me” section and endorsing their coworkers you can feel good knowing that it’s going to lead to that next great hire – a direct, positive impact on your business.
Gen Y is fast becoming the majority of the working population. And it’s no surprise that they spend a heck of a lot of time on their phones and in apps. Their usage and their sharing habits aren’t slowing down anytime soon.
Smart hiring managers have already taken advantage of this fact to widen their network with little to no work. Jobsabi , for example, makes it easy to create and share jobs with current employees who can then spread the word by sharing jobs with people in their Jobsabi network or share it out on other social networks, like Facebook or Twitter.
If they refer someone who gets hired you get to send them an extra little monetary bump for their sharing habits and expert networking skills. (You’ll probably want to put some rules around when they get their reward, but more on building out a successful referral program later.)
Think about it this way, if they’re going to be on their phones, why not make it work in your favor!
