It’s no secret that everyone in the service industry works their tail off. We see it day in and day out from our HotSchedules community. Sometimes you’re faced with serious curve balls that have nothing to do with your job. It’s definitely not in your job description to take on some of situations like the ones below, but the folks here stepped up and went above and beyond what anyone could have asked for.

Here’s how a few people reached superstar status…

1) The fearless team of Wendy’s Indiana help deliver baby.

They stepped in and helped a woman who was on the verge of delivering her baby. With their quick thinking and teamwork they were able to keep her safe until ambulances arrived.

2) Hooters waitress donates kidney to customer.

Mariana Villarreal was working at a Hooters in Georgia when one of their regulars, Don Thomas, came in and shared with Mariana his chronic kidney issues caused by cancer. Mariana was inspired by the recent passing of her grandmother from a similar health issue and graciously donated her kidney to the gentleman.

3) Local restaurant owner saves lobster.

Restauranteur, Stephen Jordan, was surprised one day when his fisherman delivered an extra special shipment. There was a 23-pound lobster estimated to be around 95 years old. Instead of specializing it on the menu, Jordan donated it to a local aquarium.

4) A Chef fights for her right to feed the homeless.

This selfless chef (say that three times fast), Joan Cheever, has donated food to the homeless every Tuesday for ten years. When authorities approached her with a citation, she stood her ground and fought for her right to continue her charitable practices.

5) Pizzeria customers pay it forward.

And where would we be without those amazing, thoughtful customers! At this particular establishment, customers have the option to pay an extra $1 on their ticket – the dollar gives a slice of pizza to the homeless. The restaurant donates on average 30 – 40 slices a day!

6) Restaurant owner learns self-defense to fend of robbers.

This restaurant experienced numerous break-ins in a short period of time. The owner, Roisin Llorente, felt her safety was at risk. She decided to take matters into her own hands – and learn Kung Fu.

7) Baltimore eatery skips restaurant week to help homeless.

Restaurant owner Baltimore restaurant owner, Michael Tabrizi, opted out of the city’s Restaurant Week to pursue more charitable endeavours. For five days straight the restaurant served three meals a day to the homeless.
