Labor compliance remained a hot topic throughout the course of 2017 and the HotSchedules Labor product roadmap certainly reflected the changing legal landscape. With various pending legislation on the table (predictive scheduling, overtime law, just to name a couple) and a new administration in the White House, the year was full of ups, downs, starts, and stops. As we wrap up the year here at HotSchedules, it seems like a good time to reflect on all the new product features that were implemented to help managers maintain compliance, avoid fines and schedule hourly workers with confidence.

Dealing with a Paid Time Off Mandate?

HotSchedules Time Off and Availability features have undergone a series of improvements over the last two years, including the addition of a Paid Time Off option. If you operate in a city or state with a paid time off mandate, we recommend you add the Time Off feature to your HotSchedules account. When this feature is enabled, sick leave requests override any cut-off limits and blocked days in the system.

Minor Scheduling Compliance Made Simple

In 2017 we made it a little bit easier to schedule the youngest members of your workforce. ASC Administrators can configure scheduling rules to accommodate multiple age ranges and your states’ unique scheduling requirements. The integration of school calendars allows managers to account for each district’s calendar including holidays.

Automate Meal and Break Scheduling

HotSchedules veterans are already very familiar with scheduling meals and breaks. This year we added flexibility in the rules configuration to accommodate multiple geographies and the ability to see an accurate cost of schedule in both hours and dollars. Stay Alert to Labor Compliance – on your Mobile Device

Speaking of Meals and Breaks, real-time mobile alerts to keep managers aware of missed meals or breaks were among the many enhancements made to our Time & Attendance solution this year. California operators can also add a pay impact to reflect the cost of a missed meal or break penalty.

And finally, Predictive Scheduling

Our latest release includes a collection of breakthrough features aimed at addressing the common compliance provisions found in Predictive Scheduling mandates with configurable labor rules, manager alerts to potential compliance violations, shift transaction reporting and continuous electronic documentation. We also have a variety of resources, including a comprehensive eBook, breaking down what geographies will be impacted and how operators can mitigate the effects of these new laws.
